See ofrenda honoring former Lincoln Avenue School campus
Students at Lincoln Avenue School created an ofrenda commemorating their former school's campus, which caught fire this summer. A Day of the Dead ofrenda was held for Lincoln Avenue School students in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to commemorate their former campus that was fire-damaged earlier this year at Casimir Pulaski High School on Oct. 9, 2026. Students were asked to draw their memories of Lincoln Avenue school and think about what they hoped for the school’s future. They were also asked to think about their aspirations for the future of the school as it is rebuilt. Students learned about the mythical phoenix during the art activity, which encouraged them to reflect on their memories and aspirations for Lincoln Ave School as it recovers. The ofrendas included memories and dreams for the futures of the former school, which caught fire earlier this summer and displaced hundreds of students.
