Milwaukee Earns LEED Gold For Citywide Sustainability Efforts
National certification validates local climate work and offers a new tool to lure visitors and business. Milwaukee has earned LEED Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), a designation that recognises the city's environmental sustainability efforts and could be used as a tool to attract tourists, conventions, and businesses. The designation, formally announced on Oct. 21, is the second-highest certification offered by the USGBC for individual buildings and applies to the entire city, not just City Hall or other municipal buildings. City officials believe the certification could be particularly useful in attracting conferences and conventions that prioritise environmental sustainability. The certification is not directly tied to the city’s Climate and Equity Plan, but many initiatives outlined in that plan contributed to Milwaukee’S score.
