GREEN BAY – Last night the Green Bay Common Council voted 9-3 in favor of establishing two new early voting locations – one on the west side at Johnsonville Tailgate Village and one on the east side at St. Bernard Church.
Wisconsin Conservation Voters is proud to have helped lead the effort to expand access to early voting alongside a wide cross section of the city including our own members, League of Women Voters members, 9 to 5 Wisconsin, the Greater Green Bay YMCA, All Voting is Local, poll workers, faith leaders, labor groups, and more.
The new locations will be open for the August election on Aug. 7, 8, and 9 from 3 to 8 p.m. As well as the November election on Oct. 29, 30, and 31 from 3 to 8 p.m. We encourage residents to check the city’s clerk’s website at https://greenbaywi.gov/ for updates and information.
Organizing Director Casey Hicks, who is based in our Green Bay office, had this to say about last night’s victory:
When early voting hours and locations are expanded, it leads to more options for voters to cast their ballot. It is especially important for voters with differing abilities, busy schedules, and transportation barriers. It also leads to shorter lines on Election Day and less stress on election administrators and poll workers.
This renewed push for early voting expansion comes nearly two years after the previous council voted unanimously to increase early voting hours leading up to the 2022 midterm elections. We’re proud to have helped lead the effort to continue to defend and expand access to the ballot for everyone in Green Bay.
Now, we look forward to getting the word out this summer so voters know about and use the new locations. As a Green Bay resident, I personally can’t wait can’t wait to snap my ‘I Voted’ selfie with Lambeau Field in the background.”
