Halfway through her ... Literacy Green Bay, Wisconsin, is the city's largest resource for helping immigrants, refugees and other adults learn English as a second language. The nonprofit was hit hard by federal cuts, including the elimination of billions in federal funding and the elimination in refugee resettlement programs. Literacy GreenBay has reduced from 15 ESL classes to eight, stopped offering child care and has a 300-person waitlist. The largest share of students at the school are Hispanic, followed by Somali, Afghan, Syrian and Ukrainian refugees. The school's classes start at a level considered "pre-literate," for people who don't know how to read, write or use a computer in their native language. All services are low-cost, with students paying a $65 fee to begin and purchasing books for $35.
