Parking at Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport 'nearing full capacity'

The airport announced that travelers should look towards alternative ways to get to the airport, as parking spots are nearly full. Parking at the Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport is nearly full due to the spring break travel season. The airport's roughly 12,000 parking spaces are about 98% full, according to airport spokesperson Summer Hegranes. He warned that parking capacities would remain near this level for at least the rest of this week. The parking lot may be closed to customers who did not make an advance reservation. The MKE SmartPark App allows for advance parking reservations, which must be made 48 hours in advance. Public transit options include Amtrak Hiawatha line, coach buses, and GO Riteway.

Parking at the Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport could be a headache — and perhaps full at times — for the rest of this week as the spring break travel season is keeping lots full.

The roughly 12,000 parking spaces at the airport are about 98% full, said airport spokesperson Summer Hegranes in an email. The airport official expected that parking capacities would be near this level for at least the rest of this week and advised travelers to use other transportation methods.

“As of Tuesday, March 26, some of Mitchell Airport’s parking lots are nearing full capacity and may be closed to customers who did not make an advance reservation,” a statement announcing the parking situation said. “Travelers may be directed to other lots, so please allow for extra time to park and get to the terminal.”

Parking officials forecasted a busy travel season earlier this month for spring break at a March 8 press conference. At the conference, they urged travelers to use the airport’s parking app to reserve parking ahead of time to avoid issues.

The airport offers a mobile app, called the MKE SmartPark App, for ahead-of-time parking reservations. They must be made 48 hours in advance.

Ride share apps like Uber and Lyft, or taxis also service the airport, as does Milwaukee’s transit systems. Those looking to take public transit may take Route 80 through the Milwaukee County Transit System or the Green Line.

Some of the other options to get to the airport include the Amtrak Hiawatha line, coach buses, and booking a ride through GO Riteway.
