Jason and Travis Kelce buy stake in beer brand sold in Wisconsin - Milwaukee Business Journal
Travis and Jason Kelce like beer. They really like this one in particular that's available at a store nearby. The Kelce brothers, Jason and Travis Kelce, are purchasing a stake in Columbus, Ohio-based craft beer brand Garage Beer, which is sold in Wisconsin and a dozen other states. The brothers announced the deal on their podcast New Heights. They already have a partnership with Columbus-based retailer Homage and have been friends with Garage Beer co-owner Andy Sauer for years. The beer, which started as a beer brewed by Braxton Brewing in Kentucky, is available in 13 states, including Wisconsin, where it is available at many Milwaukee-area grocery stores, liquor outlets and taverns. The brand's 4% alcohol-by-volume, 95-calorie light beer touts its beer-flavored beer flavor and is also available at games of the Columbus Crew (owned by Milwaukee Bucks minority owners Jimmy and De Haslam).

The Kelce brothers are buying into a Columbus, Ohio-based craft beer brand that's sold in Wisconsin and a dozen other states.
Ohio natives Jason and Travis Kelce, who already have an ongoing partnership with Columbus, Ohio-based retailer Homage, added to their local business connections by acquiring an ownership stake in the Garage Beer brand sold in Wisconsin and a dozen other states.
The brothers announced the deal Wednesday morning on their popular podcast New Heights.
Travis Kelce, in a separate release, said he’s known Garage Beer co-owner Andy Sauer for years and they’ve worked together in the past.
They also like the product.
“People crave quality and simplicity and Garage Beer nails both for me. We are light beer drinkers and Garage is the best light beer,” Jason Kelce said in the release. “For me, the brand fits my lifestyle and having a few beers is a great excuse to get the neighbors together."
Garage Beer started as a beer brewed by Braxton Brewing in Covington, Kentucky. It grew to a point that the brewery teamed up with Columbus-based entrepreneur Sauer to make it its own entity. That brewery still makes the beer.
The 4% alcohol-by-volume, 95-calorie light beer touts its beer-flavored beer flavor. There’s a lime version as well.
Where to find the Kelces' beer
The beer is available in 13 states, including Wisconsin, where it is available in many Milwaukee-area grocery stores, liquor outlets and taverns, according to the brand's "beer finder." Retail outlets where Garage Beer is sold include Sendik's, Woodman's, Outpost Natural Foods and Total Wine and More.
The brand is also sold in Pennsylvania, where Jason Kelce had played for the Philadelphia Eagles, and Missouri, where Travis Kelce still plays for the Kansas City Chiefs. Another dozen states are expected to be added this year.
Garage Beer has grown its central Ohio presence in the past year, too. In addition to getting into more retailers and on more taps, its cans are sold at games of the Columbus Crew (owned by Milwaukee Bucks minority owners Jimmy and De Haslam) and it’s the official beer of the Leisure Club in the Trolley District.
The Kelces' stake was not disclosed, but the brothers will be “significant” owners and operators, including getting involved with marketing, distribution and brewing. Retail displays, billboards and promotions touting their involvement are coming soon.
The Kelces (and Travis' girlfriend, who you may have heard of) have a dedicated following. Their endorsements can lead to increased sales.
“Garage prides ourselves on small-batch brewing and a commitment to quality,” Sauer said in the release. “Ever since our first conversation with Travis and Jason, it was clear we had similar opinions about beer, but they also had brilliant, and very funny, business sensibility. Our team better be on their toes now.”
