Under An Hour From Milwaukee Is Wisconsin's Darling Forest Lake With Camping, Fishing, And Boating
Nestled within a vast protected forest, this lake is a local gem for woodsy camping, cruising by boat, and casting a line for a variety of gamefish. The Pike Lake Unit of Kettle Moraine State Forest, established in 1937 to protect the glacially carved landscape of southeastern Wisconsin, is a popular spot for fishing and camping. The 750-acre unit was created in the 1960s and now contains a 1,350-foot glacial mound called Powder Hill. It borders Pike Lake, a 522-acre kettle lake fed by clear spring water. The fishing season in Wisconsin typically runs from May until early March, with anglers aged 16 and older needing a valid state fishing license to cast into Pike Lake. To visit the Pike Lake unit, purchase a daily or annual vehicle admission pass from the Wisconsin State Park System and stay at two camping areas near the lake.
