Members of pro-democracy rights organizations have signed a letter supporting the appointment of Paulina Gutierrez as the next executive director of the Milwaukee Election Commission. The signatories, who also support the selection of Gutierrez as a community organizer and former member of the Fire and Police Commission, express their support for her appointment. Gutierrez has extensive knowledge of the election process and knowledge of how to ensure a democratic process for voting in Milwaukee. They also praise her commitment to local government and the people of Wisconsin. Nick Ramos from the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign praised Gutierrez's appointment and the need for swift confirmation for the executive director and deputy director roles.

MILWAUKEE – The signatories below, all members of pro-democracy rights organizations, support the selection of Paulina Gutierrez as the next executive director of the Milwaukee Election Commission. We recognize our country’s presidential election is less than 5 months away, and we need a leader who is ready to listen, recognize, and provide for the needs of voters in Milwaukee, and the employees they will soon oversee.
Gutierrez has prior experience that will be critical during such an important election year. She has knowledge of the election process, as well as knowledge of how to ensure a democratic process for voting in Milwaukee. In addition, Gutierrez’s background as a community organizer and her work on the Fire and Police Commission exhibit her leadership, attention to detail, and commitment to local government and the people of Wisconsin. Previously with the state Department of Correction, Gutierrez led the charge advising the state Legislature and Governor’s office on strategic planning regarding the criminal justice system and proposals.
Stability is key for such a crucial election cycle, and in order for democracy to work, we need all hands on deck. During this time when voting security and safety are paramount, swift confirmation for the executive director and deputy director roles is vital.
