Milwaukee Archbishop Jeffrey Grob has publicly apologized after the White House released photos and video of twelve Catholic bishops praying with him in the Oval Office without the consent of the participants. Grob stated that the meeting was not an endorsement of President Donald Trump's policies or his party but a private gathering to discuss matters of faith, immigration enforcement, religious worker visas, and human dignity. Des Moines Bishop William Joensen accused the WhiteHouse of exploiting the meeting for partisan political purposes. The invitation, extended in September, offered discussion about immigration enforcement and religious worker visa and included federal tax credits to support private education. The controversy began when the bishops' prayer was posted by the Whitehouse less than two weeks before the midterm elections.
