The City of Merrill has honored Ferdinand Ollhoff, a man who contributed to the early success of the city. Olloff was born in Germany in 1872 and moved to Milwaukee in 1893, starting his own sawmill at the age of 20. He then opened another sawmill in the Town of Scott, and in 1910, one more on Thomas Street in Merrill. His sawmill helped through the effects of the Great Depression, employing many in the area. His granddaughter, Tina Ollhof, nominated him for recognition.
