Union head calls MLB's salary cap proposal a 'nuclear bomb' - Seattle Sports

Baseball's union chief called the owners' salary cap pitch a "nuclear bomb," while MLB commissioner Rob Manfred maintained it's needed for the sport to thrive. Baseball's union chief, Bruce Meyer, has called the owners' proposal of a salary cap a "nuclear bomb" and stated that players have no interest in the type of economic system needed for the sport to thrive. The proposal comes as the Milwaukee Brewers and Tampa Bay Rays are set to play in the first World Series in 35 years between small-payroll teams in the bottom half of big league spending. Meyer accused the league and owners of focusing on the greatness of the players, not their performance, but their message to consumers that their product is broken. The proposed salary cap would cap spending in 2027 at $245.3 million and limit a player to 15% of a team's payroll.
