Ethics Complaint Filed Over Rep. Van Orden’s Use of AI
Fake image shows Democrat Rebecca Cooke running to give illegal immigrants free health care. A complaint has been filed by the Wisconsin Ethics Commission against U.S. Rep. Derrick Van Orden over his use of artificial intelligence to generate images of his Democratic opponent Rebecca Cooke. The images were posted to his and his campaign's online accounts ahead of a debate between the two candidates. The complaint alleges that Van Orgen violated a 2024 law that requires political ads with AI to be clearly labeled as such. So far, Van OrDen's posts have not been subject to the law as they don't qualify as advertisements. Cooke's campaign has sent a cease and desist letter to Van Or Den seeking to stop him from posting fake material about Cooke, including a video in which she appears pretending to be running to “take advantage of corruption and give every illegal immigrant free healthcare”
