PurpleTV, promising neutral political programming, sets its Milwaukee debut date
The new low-power TV format will hit the airwaves less than three weeks before the start of the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee. PurpleTV, a new politically neutral news channel, will debut in Milwaukee on low-power television channel WWMW on Channel 16.1 on June 27. The new format, announced by Roseland Communication, will feature short videos and informational text aimed at the "purple majority" and will be designed to look more like an internet feed or a social media stream than traditional TV. The launch date coincides with the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, which begins July 15. PurpleTV will broadcast from 7 to 11 p.m. Monday through Friday, with information on basic politics-related topics such as voter registration and voter turnout.

PurpleTV, the new avowedly politically neutral news channel, will go on the air in Milwaukee June 27 on low-power television channel WWMW, at Channel 16.1.
The new format, announced last month by Roseland Communication, will feature short videos and informational text aimed at the "'purple majority' — those who aren't, politically speaking, all red or all blue," according to a June 12 news release. In its earlier statement, Roseland said the news content on PurpleTV would "have a centrist and pro-compromise outlook."
The launch date news tied the timing of PurpleTV's debut to the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, which kicks off July 15 — less than three weeks after PurpleTV's hits the airwaves.
PurpleTV will broadcast from 7 to 11 p.m. Monday through Friday, and will be designed to "look more like an internet feed or a social media stream" than traditional TV, according to PurpleTV. The programming also will include information on basic politics-related topics, including voter registration and voter turnout.
The programming also will stream at PurpleTV.com.
Low-power stations have licenses that allow them to broadcast over the air using a more limited transmitter signal than full-power stations; typically, they lease their stations' bandwidth to a variety of programming outlets.
Southeast Wisconsin has more than a half-dozen low-power TV outlets, though their signals make their reach limited, depending on a viewer's antenna. Only a handful are also carried on local cable or satellite services.
Earlier this year, Roseland changed the call letters and channel number of its low-power cluster in Milwaukee from WPVS, airing on Channel 29, to WWMW, on Channel 16. (PurpleTV airs on 16.1; it also operates four other subchannels, including shopping channels and a Christian channel.)
